Based on the recent CBC Radio 3 Podcast and other information, I am going out on a limb and saying that iTunes 4.9 will very likely be out this morning, on Tuesday June 28th. If not, it will be out within the week.
The reason that I am saying this is my freshly download episode, aptly titled "iTunes premire" is billing itself as "iTunes Featured". Breaking from it's usual weekly publishing schedule (the last Episode was only 3 days prior) DJ Grant Lawrence announces that:
"...this is a very special edition of our show show because this very Podcast is being promoted by iTunes who just entered the world of Podcasting themselves. Welcome iTunes, thanks for the attention. So for all our regular subscribers bear with me for a second while I welcome everyone from the iTunes site who might possibly be listening to a Podcast for the very first time."
Multiple reports, Adam Curry and even Steve Jobs himself have said that the update is coming and ahead of schedule, so the timing is right. Also, the CBC up here in Canada is obviously working with Apple, most likely being told to get a new show out for Tuesday, as they obviously published late on the day before on purpose. It also makes sense that the 4.9 update is out of the way before the other new announcements a week later, which will all be vying for media attention.
