Today while poking about the best movies ever on wikipedia I came across The Razzies, better known as "that other awards show" for the worst movies ever. Understandably, only two actors (one of them Tom Green) and the director of Showgirls have ever picked up their trophies.
The list is long (here as well) so here are a bunch that I remember or are laughably bad, along with some great slams by critics:
- The Adventures of Pluto Nash (2002).
- Batman & Robin (1997)
- Battlefield Earth (2000)
- Cool as Ice (1991) - This stared Vanilla Ice, who won 91's Razzie for "Worst New Star". Notorious for the line "Drop that zero and get with the hero!"
- Dracula vs. Frankenstein (1971)
- Freddy Got Fingered (2001)
- From Justin to Kelly (2003)
- Glitter (2001) - Remember this one based on Mariah Carey's life story?
- Highlander II (1991) - "The script feels as if it were written in crayon on the morning of filming." (BBC Critic)
- Howard the Duck (1986)
- The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies (1964) - I have no clue what this is about but the title alone just about does it for me.
- New York Minute (2004) - staring Mary Kate and Ashley
- Pearl Harbor (2001) - "It battered my intelligence with such ferocity I could barely find my way out of the cinema." (BBC)
- Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (1964)
- Showgirls (1995)
- The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978) - "Can Chewbacca reach his home planet in time to stop the evil empire from raiding his family's house, while watching Beatrice Arthur sing? Technically not a movie at all, this television special is nearly unanimously loathed by Star Wars fans, and basically anyone who has ever heard, or seen it. It is complete with a Jefferson Starship music video, Harvey Korman dressed as a female robot, a dancing Art Carney, and a virtual-reality masturbation-like sequence with Chewbacca's Dad, "Itchy."".
- SuperBabies: Baby Geniuses 2 (2004) - "The most perversely unnecessary sequel in recent memory" (Nathan Rabin, The Onion A.V. Club)
After reading through all of these I have the urge to see Ed Wood, a film about the director of the atrocious "Plan 9 From Outer Space", widely considered to be the worst film ever made.
To the mystery "closet readers" and anyone else reading this: does anyone of you have their own opinion on what is the worst movie ever? The comment button is below...
