Lot Video Project

Lot movie

(click to stream, right click and "save as" to download).

This video was produced for my VISA 310 class at UBC and I just thought that I would share it here. It was created as a companion piece to a series of photographs of the same abandoned house. The background music is by the Flaming Lip's, copyright be damned! Here is the description of my photo series, adapted for this video:

This video is meant to spur the discussion of what happened at this house. Why was it abandoned? Why so quickly (or so it seems)? When? Why was it left to deteriorate?

The scenes presented were not set-up or altered from their found state in any way. The definitive answers to the questions above will most likely go unanswered, leaving only the photographer’s lens as the storyteller and documentarian.

On another level, this a work telling the relationship of human activity and nature. Without perpetual physical maintenance, the world we create for ourselves is overtaken and destroyed by natural growth. The urban environment is constantly in an unseen battle with the suppressed setting.

Please don't click on this if you are expecting hollywood or even film-fest type material. It is pretty dry, being that it is for a video art class. Enjoy.

Very cool. Yes, I was asking

Very cool. Yes, I was asking myself a lot of those questions while watching. I like the human activity vs. nature thing too. :)

Let me know how you do on this assignment.
